ABOUT SARAH LAVIGNE

Sarah Lavigne is a freelance photographer living in the Brattleboro area. Born and raised in Maine but drawn to Vermont by it’s culture and landscape. She has a BA in Ecology and Photography from Marlboro College, and has studied with photographers John Willis, Eugene Richards and Amy Arbus. Currently she photographs weddings, families, and events, all in a creative documentary style. Sarah also teaches occasionally for schools, summer camps, the Vermont Folk life Center, and for the In-Sight Photo Project. She has been a faculty member for the Folk life Center’s Discovering Community Summer Institute for the last two years.

I have enjoyed making photos since I was a child. I discovered as an adult that in order to spend as much time as I wanted to making photos, I needed to incorporate that art making into a career. I am a people watcher. I am most drawn to photographing humans in intimate situations, emotions, relationships, and family. I love paper photos and that the photos I create might some day be discovered by a child or grandchild and savored.
